East Hills Medical Centre is an approved Yellow Fever vaccination centre and provides pre-travel consultations for any destination from its practice at 17 Maclaurin Avenue, East Hills. A travel consultation reviews your itinerary, activities and medical history, then covers the vaccines you need, malaria prevention where relevant, food and water precautions, altitude and insect-borne illness, and a travel medication kit. Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry to some African and South American countries and the international certificate issued at the practice is valid for life. The yellow fever consultation fee is $113.90 with a Medicare rebate of $45.05, plus the cost of the vaccine. Some travel vaccines are kept in stock and paid for on the day; others are prescribed for collection from a pharmacy. Book at least six to eight weeks before departure because some courses need several doses spaced over weeks.

Yellow fever vaccination

Yellow fever vaccine can only be given at centres approved by the NSW Ministry of Health. A single dose provides lifelong protection for most people, and the International Certificate of Vaccination becomes valid ten days after the dose. Some travellers should not receive the vaccine, including infants under nine months, people with weakened immune systems and, in some cases, people over 60; your doctor will assess this and can issue a medical exemption letter where appropriate.
