East Hills Medical Centre performs minor surgical procedures and wound care in its treatment room at 17 Maclaurin Avenue, East Hills, so patients avoid a hospital visit and the wait that comes with it. Procedures include suturing of cuts, removal of stitches, wound dressings and dressing changes, removal of skin lesions, contraceptive implant insertion and removal, drainage of abscesses, and treatment of ingrown toenails. Procedures are privately billed for all patients: suturing is $180 with a Medicare rebate of $87.10, contraceptive implant insertion is $130 and removal is $165, and lesion removal is $177. The fees include the consumables used. A dressing change is billed as a short consultation. For a fresh wound, phone the practice as soon as possible; cuts should be closed within a few hours. If a wound is bleeding heavily, deep, or involves the face, hands or a joint, go to an emergency department.
