East Hills Medical Centre bulk bills children and young people aged 18 and under for GP consultations on weekdays, at 17 Maclaurin Avenue, East Hills. Children's care includes newborn and six-week checks, growth and development monitoring, National Immunisation Program vaccinations recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register, treatment of common childhood illnesses such as ear infections, tonsillitis, gastro and rashes, asthma and eczema management, allergy assessment, and referral to paediatricians, speech therapists and psychologists when needed. Dr Uthpala Senaviratne worked as a paediatric resident before general practice and has a particular interest in children's health. Same-day appointments for sick children are held each morning; phone when the practice opens. The waiting room has space for prams and the practice is on street level. Bring your child's blue book (My Personal Health Record) and Medicare card. For a child who is drowsy, struggling to breathe or has a non-blanching rash, call 000.
Well-child checks
Checks at 6 weeks, 4, 6, 12 and 18 months and 4 years line up with immunisation visits and cover growth, feeding, sleep, hearing, vision, development and parent concerns. The 4-year check includes the health assessment needed for school entry.
When your child is sick
Fever, ear pain, sore throat, cough, vomiting, diarrhoea and rashes are the everyday reasons children visit. Your GP examines your child, explains what is likely, and tells you which signs mean you should come back or go to hospital. Antibiotics are prescribed when they will help, and not otherwise.

- Eczema and allergies: skin care plans and referral for allergy testing
- Developmental and behavioural concerns: assessment and referral, including for autism and ADHD assessment

Are children bulk billed?
Yes, children and young people aged 18 and under are bulk billed for GP consultations on weekdays. Sunday consultations are privately billed for all patients.
Can I get a same-day appointment for a sick child?
Phone when the practice opens on the day. Reception keeps appointments for acute illness and children are prioritised.
Do you do school and childcare immunisation certificates?
Yes. Immunisation History Statements come from the Australian Immunisation Register and the practice can print one for you.
